Dreams Can Come True!(updated 9/20 @ 1:21pm PDT)

BlueRose has been by best friend, pretty much from the day we met. She was around for my wedding, in fact she was pretty much my maid of honor 3 months after we met. She was also there when I came back home, and she helped me through so many times in my life, and I can never repay her for that. She is a genuinely kind person, and I could find no better friend than her. I have always wanted the best for her!
Her dream is to be a Wife and a Mom and I know she will be awesome at both, but it has been a dream a long time in the making. She just got back from a week-long trip to Hawaii with her hunny, Panther late last night, and woke me up for a deep sleep, to tell me that she was engaged! YAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!
Her ring is gorgeous, but not as pretty as the smile plastered on her face! No details have been discussed yet, but I have a feeling within a year she will be sporting a new last name! She's on her way to her dreams, and I couldn't be happier for her!

Good news and sad...

First, lemme just say that I am sorry I haven't posted recently.  Things have been pretty hectic, both at work and at home, and it has been exhausting, and honestly, I just haven't wanted to be on the computer much.

I guess I will start with the sad news, first, so I can close with good news.  On September 2nd, our family lost it's youngest member, Piper Palm.  She had been part of our family for only 2 years (nearly to the day) and had brought so much joy into all of our lives.  She departed our lives nearly as quickly as she entered them, but her memory will never leave.  Miss Piper had an enlarged heart, and when discovered, it was so advanced that the best thing we could do for her was save her from months of pain.  It was a tough decision on all, and much of the reason that I have not been interested in doing a whole lot of anything lately.  She will be missed tremendously.

Now on to some lighter, happier news!  This weekend I get to go see Collin Raye in concert, not just once, but twice!!!  Exciting as that is, in itself, there is even more exciting news!!!!  I have the honor of attending the "Meet & Greet" before the show!  YUP!  You read that right...I get to actually MEET & GREET Collin Raye!  You have no idea how excited and nervous I am!  I actually get to talk to my favorite artist of all time...how lucky can one girl be!!!  I don't know if I'll be able to get photos at the first venue as it is a small theater and I'm not sure if flash photography is allowed, but I know I can get some from the fair the next day, so I'll be sure to post those next week sometime. 

The bittersweet part about the weekend is that it was supposed to be a weekend get-a-way for my hunny and I, but he is unable to get the time off from his new job, so I am very bummed about that.  I wasn't going to go, in fact, but once I got the email on Thursday stating that I had been chosen for the Meet&Greet, he wouldn't hear of me "Not going".  Now it will be a nice weekend with my Mom.  Not quite the same, but I'm sure it will be fun, none-the-less!  =-)

Welp, I finally was able to get a bunch of photos from the past month or so uploaded...YAY! They are individual posts below, but I hope you enjoy!

The Dodger Stadium, LA Cruisin' and Solvang Shots were all from our trip to LA for My Hunny's birthday. We had a great time. My Hunny  absolutely was like a kid at Disneyland when we got to Dodger Stadium. Even though the Dodgers lost (sigh), it was a great time and a memory I will cherish forever. I understand why so many people speak of Dodger Stadium with reverence and respect. She's an amazing stadium, and once you go...you know! =-)

After the game we drove around Downtown LA (Glad My hunny knows the area), and I got to have fun taking pictures out of the sunroof of my truck and seeing some historic places like the site of the Olympics many years ago (don't recall the exact year...sorry) which is now where the USC Trojans play football...GOOOO Trojans!

On Monday we drove to Solvang and walked around the cute little Dutch Style town for a while, then eventually we had to head back home.

It was a very special weekend, indeed.

The other slide show that is up, has pictures from a drive my hunny and I took a couple of weeks ago to Santa Cruz via HWY 9 which took us past some gorgeous scenery and majestic Redwoods...California really is a beautiful state!

Just to tide you over...

I haven't had a lot of time to blog in the past few weeks, and I'm sorry for the lack of updates. I have a bunch of pictures to share and will update the fun our trip to LA and another mini-adventure we took this weekend. Just some misc. fun

I just thought I would share some miscellaneous shots from the past week. We all had a lot of fun at the game and the concert. I'm grateful to be blessed to be able to do such fun things with such wonderful people! It may have been hot out, but we survived, and we all had a great time, inspite of the heat. I'm truly blessed!

Collin Raye is the BEST!!!

Last night my whole house family went to the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton to go see Collin Raye, again! He had two shows, one at 6 and one at 8, and due to shortness of time at the moment, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves! Enjoy!

July 4th - Take 1

Ok, So I can't take credit for these pictures. A good friend of mine took them at the game with her brand new Canon XTI...NICE! I have some more pictures to add, but they didn't make it to my Thumb Drive like I thought they had, so I will have to post them later today.

The game was fun, but we didn't last through the whole thing. It was nearly 100 Degrees outside, and we were melting into the seats with no shade in site, so we did something unprecidented to most sports fans...we left at the 7th inning stretch. To be honest, most of us weren't paying much attention to the game. We were having too much fun gabbing amongst ourselves (it wasn't till something like the 5th inning that I even realized that the A's were down 6-0! WoW!) Apparently after we left they did score 3 runs, but the BlueJays scored a few more as well, and ended up winning 10-3. That's ok...we still support our A's!

Mom, Dad, my hunny and I will be going to another A's game in a couple weeks, actually. That should be more comfortable as it is an evening game...phew!

A while back I was whining about having to go to school during Summer and a holiday, none-the-less...well, apparently, not only did I not really want to go to class on the holiday, the teacher didn't want to teach on the holiday, so the class was moved up a week, which is why I haven't been around for a while.

The class was "OK". I'm just glad it wasn't my money that paid for it, because I don't think it was worth the cost. I am learning more now that it is over, and from a dif't book than the one they provided. But hey, it was a week away from the office...that in itself was awesome. =-)

Now it is back to the grindstone for a day or two, then a day off...NICE! I will be updating my blog with better stuff in the next few days.

My Hunny's girls are visiting from Missouri and we're going to an A's game on Wednesday and the fair on Thursday (Collin Raye again...woohoo!), so I'm sure there'll be pics and stories to share.

Collin Ray ROCKS!!!

This is only a small portion of the pictures we got at the concert. I REALLY need a camera with better zooom...maybe for Christmas! =-)

We had a blast! My hunny was able to get out of work about a half hour early, so we left around 4:15. The traffic wasn't horrible, but pretty much typical for the time of day and route we were taking. We stopped for dinner around 6:45 and got to the fairgrounds a little after 7. At first we were surprised by how "dead" the fair seamed. There weren't many people anywhere. The grandstands were right in front of us, so we headed there first, and there was a decent crowd of people getting seats for the show. We decided to grab our seats and just chill for a while. We were about 8 rows back or so, and on the end...NICE! The place filled up gradually and then it was time!!! Collin came out sporting sunglasses as he was facing the setting sun, but soon as it was down, off they came. He put on an amazing show. He sang all of my favorite songs =-). Even my hunny enjoyed the show. Collin even sang a Don Henley song and a Beattle song, and the fact that he sang them like they were intended to be sang really impressed my hunny. So much so, that if all works out and there aren't any plans on July 5th, we're going to get to see him in Pleasanton (Quite a bit closer than Stockton).
Sadly the show ended, but I was thrilled cause I got to see Collin and had really great seats. I thought for sure it was super late. Turns out it wasn't even 10pm yet, so we got to walk around the fair a bit. We saw some sheep (after two pens we determined...they all look alike!!!), then we wondered over to the pigs, sheep and turkeys, then meandered around a bit. Oh, they even had the official Budweiser Clydesdales there! They are magnificent creatures...absolutey beautiful (and HUGE)!
The trip home only took an hour and a half or so...much better than the two and a half to get there!!!!
It really was a wonderful evening! Here's to hopin that we get to see his show in a couple weeks again!

Collin Raye...TONIGHT!

Tonight's gonna be a long/late night, but totally worth it. When I was in high school my favorite singer was Collin Raye. Most people say "Who?", but that doesn't bother me. He's a great country singer, with some amazing songs out. Of course, I had to sneak to listen to him when I was in High School, as students were not allowed to listen to anything other than approved Christian music. I would have been expelled for listening to Collin Raye...I still think it is ridiculous, but eh, I was a "Rebel"...just a subtle one! =-)

Anyway, it has been about ten years since I have seen Collin in concert, and I recently found out that he is going to be at the San Joaquin County Fair in Stockton, CA tonight. My hunny is so sweet and agreed to go with me to see him. What's the big deal, you may wonder...well, I'll tell you...Stockton is at least and hour and a half away from here, when there is no traffic, we'll be leaving about 4pm, right smack in the middle of traffic...and still he will go with me (awe). But wait! There's more!!!! Not only is he willing to endure traffic, the concert doesn't start until 8pm, so that means we wont likely get home till midnight or so, and we both have the early shift at our jobs (me at 6am, him at 7am). So, my hunny gets the "SuperSweetie" Award for being willing to face traffic, little sleep and mid-week adventures, just so I can see Collin Raye! My hunny's the BEST! (no wonders why I keep him!!!!)

In the past week or so I have been reminded of the difference between a True friend and a "Fair Weather" friend. I wont go into great details, but I have had the opportunity to hang out with my best bud BlueRose quite a bit this weekend, and it was really nice. We may live together now, but it doesn't mean we get to spend much time together. She has her hunny, friends and a much later daily schedule than I do, so at most we usually get dinner together a few times a week. Every once in a while, though, the stars align and we get to spend a lazy and fun weekend together, like this past one.



On Saturday BlueRose went with me to get my hair cut. Nothing major, just refreshing the layers. Aahhhhhh...feels much better now! =-) We also ran a couple quick errands, and then we had a family dinner (BBQ'd burgers...mmmmm). After dinner she and I got to hang out for a while, chatting away. Then on Sunday we watched a movie (no marathon like we have been known to do...7+ movies in one day), then went to Red Robin for lunch (Garlic fries...YUM). It was just really nice to get to reconnect and be reminded that she is an awesome person, and I couldn't ask for a better friend in this lifetime. Thanks for that, my friend/sister!

Then, on the other side of the coin, I was reminded that some friendships aren't to the same level. Whereas I would do pretty much anything within my capabilities to help a friend out whenever possible, it isn't always a two way street. The details aren't necessary, but the lesson learned is. Please, be good to the friends that you have...you may need them some day!

Back to School???

But it's Summer Vacation time, not school time!



Recently I was discussing with a friend how much I wish we could have Summer Vacations from work, like students get from school. Could you imagine? Two-three months of sleeping in, goofing off and just enjoying each day? Wow...how nice that would be (of course I would expect to get paid for that time period, as well...I mean, you have to have money to live on, after all!!!). Unfortunately, life doesn't work that way for most of us, so we have to trudge ourselves into work each day, watching the summer vacationers set off in their bermuda shorts to enjoy the waves as we set off in our work gear to suffer through the day...but hey, someone has to do it! ;-) Now comes to the completely Ironic bit, in a twisted sort of way. Not only do I not get Summer Vacation, but now I find out I have to go to school...in the middle of summer and there's even tests and homework--AAACK! OH, and the days are 10 hours long....WAAAAAAAAHHHHH! Actually it is to further my career and knowledge, but still...school in the summer...ICK! My boss told me yesterday that I will be the first in our group to take the PC and Windows training courses. Fun fun fun! I had a choice though (oooh, how thoughtful...choices). I could take the one that was scheduled for the last week in June, but is located in San Francisco (downtown SF--Market Street---ugh!) OR I could take the one scheduled for the first week of July in Fremont (much close, less traffic, much more familiar for me), but as you read, the first week of JULY? Yup, folks, I have to go to school on a National holiday...sigh! Worst part is, that was my choice. Although, anyone from this area (or familiar with it) would understand giving up a day off to not have to drive to SF each day for a week to make a 9am class. Basically I'd have to leave by 7...no way! So, while everyone else in the Nation (yes major generalization there, but it is my pity party after all) is out of work, enjoying BBQ's, I will be cramming my brain with information that I will then have to spit out in correct form onto a test...then I will be Certified!!! oooooh! Of course there are those who will say that I am certified allready...NUTS, that is!

Memorial Day Weekend

What a weekend!!!

This past weekend was another really nice weekend! Even better, it was a 3-Day weekend! Right on!
On Saturday evening, My hunny and I went out to dinner at the new Chili's by our house...Mmmm! The best part, though, was time with my Love! I'm such a lucky lady!
My hunny headed over the hill to the Valley to see his Dad on Sunday, so I hung out with BlueRose for the morning. We had a good lunch at "Cluck U", then stopped at Costco to pick up the main attraction for Monday's dinner (rib eye steaks...yum-o). After that we took our giant color pads outside and spent a couple hours coloring Bambi pictures. After she left to go see her hunny, I headed back out for another round with the color pad.
Monday was a bunch of the same. I colored one more page in the book, and read some more of the "Strange Candy" book by Laurell K. Hamilton. It's a compilation of a bunch of her short stories. Love it! After my hunny got home Dad fired up the grill, and we soon ate an amazing dinner of steaks, homemade macaroni salad, fruit salad and fresh green beans...outstanding!
The weekend went by quickly as they always seem to do, but it was definitely an enjoyable one! Good weather, good food, great family! Gotta love it!!!

Weekend Adventure - Part 3

Ahh, the final addition to my Weekend Adventure Series (from this past weekend, anyway).

On Sunday my Hunny and I decided to take the camaro out for a run. The weather was gorgeous and she's only had in-town miles on her for the past couple months, so she was in desperate need of some highway miles. We took the T-Tops out, then headed off without a plan of where we were headed.

I started off by having my hunny navigate (Left, Right, Straight, etc). After meandering for a while we ended up heading North on Hwy 101. My hunny then had the idea of going over the Dumbarton bridge, into Fremont, something different, at least. The Bay was gorgeous, the sky clear, and the temperature cozy. After we reached the other side of the bridge, we saw a sign for the Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge, and decided to see what that was all about.

We ended up in a beautiful, peaceful area I never knew existed. Neither of us had proper shoes for hiking, so we didn't get to explore the refuge too much, but the walk that we did take was amazing. We parked and had the option to go around the hill and up to the Visitor's Center, or take the stairs straight ahead of us. we opted for the stairs. Just a few steps up I noticed a lizard and stopped to point it out to my Hunny. We then took a couple more and heard another lizard dart into the dried leaves. We looked for a couple seconds, but didn't see anything, so we began to step up to the next step, when my hunny suddenly stopped and told me to do the same. I was startled at first, but then saw what he had seen...a snake! Now I am a total city girl, never been camping, not been out in nature a whole lot (even though I love it), and this was my first encounter with a wild snake. I wasn't too frightened, as I'm fairly certain it wasn't poisonous or dangerous, and it wasn't very big (maybe 2 ft long or so). I didn't get the camera out in time to get a picture, but it was really pretty, in hindsight. It was solid green. It's belly was a lighter-whitish-green, but all in all, pretty. It quickly found a hole in the step and disappeared, and we continued up the next few flights of stairs, suddenly a little more aware of what was around us.

When we got to the top of the hill, the view nearly took my breath away. I forget too often that the Bay Area has such beauty. I tend to focus on the concrete and cement, but moments like that remind me that there is beauty everywhere. I will post some pictures that really just don't capture the beauty and peacefulness that my hunny and I found up there.

We stayed for an hour or so, just enjoying the beauty, and next time we will go better prepared to explore the trails.

So, that is the end of last weekend's adventures, but Summer is just beginning, and I'm certain that there are more adventures to come!

Weekend Adventure - Part 2

Today's blog is all about Jocko's. =-) What is Jocko's? Where is Jocko's? Why is Jocko's worth a 6 hour round trip? Your questions are all about to be answered, my friend!!!

Jocko's is a steakhouse in the little town of Nipomo, which is just a few miles North of Santa Monica, CA on Hwy 101. I would never have known it existed if my hunny hadn't shared it with us a few years ago.
Mom, Dad, My Hunny and I were all on our way down to SoCal for our first NASCAR race when we decided to take the scenic route. There are two major options for getting to SoCal from the Bay Area: I-5 which is a 5-6 hour drive or Hwy 101 which is about a 7-8 hour drive. Typically we take I5 which is a pretty boring drive, but much quicker. Since we were in no hurry, we opted for more coastal route of 101. An hour or so into the ride, my Hunny says that if we are interested in stopping for a nice dinner, he had a suggestion for us. We were all game, so he said he'd lead us to the best steakhouse ever! The next couple of hours were filled with the background of how he knew about Jockos. He and his family used to go there when he was young. His Dad's company would rent out half of the restaurant during their convention and they would spend hours enjoying the food and atmosphere. He has very fond memories of this place, and I was feeling pretty honored to get to share something with him that meant so much to him.

We got to Jocko's around 4:30, which happened to be the time they opened up for lunch. It also turned out to be a good thing we weren't any later, becuase after 5pm, if you don't have a reservation, you have at least an hour wait!!! We sat down at the table and our adventure began. Jocko's serves salsa and crackers as well as "reslish trays" while you read the menu and make your choices. Next comes a delicious salad, followed by the main course, BBQ beans and toast, polished off with a bowl of ice cream at the end. My hunny wasn't kidding. Jocko's steaks are the best, bar none, of any I have ever had. The only thing that comes close is my Dad's BBQ'd steaks. The portions are huge, and there are always leftovers!

We have sense returned several times. Each trip we've made together sense then has been specifically to go there for dinner. We usually stop at Pizmo Beach, a half hour or so before Jocko's and enjoy the breath-taking views of the Pacific Ocean, then continue on. After dinner we talk around the table for a while, then load back in the car or truck for the 3 hr ride home. All who have gone agree that it is well worth the ride!

This past weekend was no different. We had an excellent dinner and adventure and are already looking forward to the next trip!

Weekend Adventure - Part 1

This weekend was quite an adventure filled one, and yet relaxing at the same time!

Our family made one of our "Infamous" trips to Jocko's Steakhouse on Saturday. It's a 3 hour drive, but the food is WELL worth it. It is by far, the best steak I've ever had at a restaurant. I will post later about the Jocko's portion of the trip, but this one is dedicated to our stop at Pizmo Beach on the way down.

My hunny got out of work early on Saturday so we could get a earlier start. We had reservations for 8 (a must have), so we knew we'd have lots of time to stop for some sight-seeing. All 5 of us loaded into Mom and Dad's car, and off we went. The drive was gorgeous. We stopped once, about half way down for some Starbucks Iced Teas and Frappaccinos, and got to Pizmo Beach around 6:15. As luck would have it, we stumbled upon a beautiful park, and spent quite a bit of time there just enjoying the scenery, fresh air and each other's company. Oh, and of course a photo-shoot was sure to insue! Here are just a few pictures of our fun at Pizmo Beach!

Quick Update

Hi, Everyone!

I am feeling much better today, and am well on the road to recovery. I had a wonderful weekend, and will be blogging about it later this week. Unfortunately I have a lot of work to catch up on after missing more than 3 days last week, so I have to focus on that for now.

Wow! I can't believe it has been over a week since I last had an entry in here! Sorry for the lack of communication on my part.

In true family-style, my family has been practicing the lovely act of "Sharing", which normally is a wonderful trait to have...NORMALLY. When it comes to a nasty cold bug, though,...not so wonderful! Poor Dad started coming down with it last Wednesday, and missed the first day of work I have ever known him to miss (Mom can't recall him missing any work in 33 years of marriage, either) on Friday. Well, Saturday rolled around, and my Hunny and I had plans to go to Walnut Creek to put some flowers on his mother's grave. We invited Mom and Dad along, as Dad was feeling a little better and was happy for the diversion. It was on the way that I realized my throat was really quite sore, and my hunny started sniffling a bit. Well, by Sunday I was down with the same bug Dad had, and ended up missing three full days of work (so much for those vacation days I had saved up). I returned to work yesterday, but only lasted about 6 hours, and today I am feeling that I wont be making it a full day, either, but thankfully I am feeling much MUCH better! Now it's mostly just "wearing out" quickly. As I told my boss yesterday, My batteries just ran out! She told me to go home, then added, "I think you're using the wrong batteries, Kat...you might try Energizer next time." I responded with "Darn those dollar store buys!"

So, this weekend has a lot of rest in store, I'm certain, but I'm also grateful that my health is coming back...the doctor told me some people have this thing for more than two weeks...EEK!

Dad is feeling mostly better and my hunny has this lovely bug, too, but he has proven to be "toughest" (most stubborn) of us all by forcing himself to go to work every day. Hopefully he will be able to get some much needed rest this weekend, as well.

So, my wish for everyone this weekend is a HEALTHFUL, enjoyable weekend! OH, and don't worry, I washed my hands before I blogged, so this shouldn't be contageous!!!! (I hope)...AAACHOOOOO!

This is my Minnie in all her glory! She was loving the hotel days with no other kitty to compete with!!!

Minnie and I have been together for 8 years this summer. She's been with me through some really rough times, and the good times too, and she really is my little brat, er, I mean baby! I love her like a kid and she is spoiled beyond reason. When she first entered my life, she was accompanied by her sister who really meant the world to me, too. Tragedy struck a year and a half later and we lost Tigger and miss her to this day.

Ever since Tigger's absense, Minnie has become quite adamate that she be the ONLY kitty in the household. A couple years ago that was put to the test when Piper adopted us. After a few weeks of bitter hissing and growling, and aided with vast supplies of cat nip, Minnie finally accepted Piper, only because Piper bowed down to the greatness that is Minnie!

Fast-forward a few months and enter Kali! Mom and Dad moved back from Missouri and along with them came Kali. She, too, was used to being queen of the castle, but much more friendly than Minnie towards other cats. There has been no happy ending or settling of differences. Piper is friends with both Minnie and Kali, but Minnie hates Kali and hisses, growls and chases her at any forseeable opprotunity. We have tried several techniques to settle her down, but nothing has worked. One of these days my hunny and I will have our own place again and Minnie will be a happy girl once more, but till then, I am sure she will continue to be agitated by Kali's existence.

So, last month, on a Saturday, I was sitting at my computer, playing City of Heroes when movement out of the corner of my eye caused me to turn around, then grab for the camera! Here is the proof that Minnie does not want anyone to see:

Minnie is the one to the left and Kali to the right. Once she realized that I had caught her, she promptely hissed and Kalie and ran away. Let me also add that we have seen her and Kali mere feet apart at the doors, but when she sees that we see her, she then gets angry and runs away, so I believe it is all a show for my sake, but don't let her know that ;-)

Piper was a bit upset that she was mentioned but didn't have any candid shots of her in this blog, so I am remedying that and begging for her to forgive such a horrendous oversite!!!! We are *SOOOO* honored that she graced us by bestowing upon our family the priviledge of sharing a home with her!!! So, without further adieu....I present to you, PIPER...
