Sunday Scribblings - "Wings"

The prompt this week for Sunday Scribblings is "Wings". How fun is that. I had so many thoughts come to mind, but this little poem made itself known above all the other thoughts, so I had to bring it to life!

WINGS
Kat Mosher – 4/30/2007

Mighty Dragons soaring on high,

Dainty Fairies fluttering by.

An Eagle’s beauty and strength unfurled,

Unseen angels surrounding the world.

Children’s arms flapping up and down,

Airplane rides the world around.

Some are soft and light like a feather,

Others tough, strong like leather.

Some have veins seen through veils

Others are shiny from all their scales.

The possibilities limitless in one’s dreams

What would you do with the treasure of wings?

Sunday Scribblings "Rooted"

You can barely see my Dad in this picture, he's in the center of the shot, now keep in mind that he is six feet, 2 inches tall...I think the tree is just slightly taller than he! Wow, he's just so tiny in comparison! Totally amazing!

This week’s Sunday Scribblings prompt is “Rooted”.
The main thing that comes to my mind is thought of trees, and living on the West Coast, I have the privilege of viewing the magnificent Redwood Trees. These trees are massive, impressive, mighty, awe-inspiring, just flat out amazing!!! They grow for hundreds and thousands of years, and are stead-fast, and well-rooted. An interesting fact I learned from reading about them is that even if they fall over, they still strive to live. The limbs that are facing the ground become roots and the limbs pointed up become new trees. They even adapt their root system when required, creating lateral roots when the soil levels change. Some Redwoods are taller than the Statue of Liberty, rising over 375 feet, and some are wider than a greyhound bus! How amazing is that!!! They truly are a wonder of nature, and are my “visual” of the word rooted. Another interesting fact, they are the Largest living thing on earth. Now if that isn’t impressive…I don’t know what is.
If you would like to read a little more on the Mighty Redwood, here are a couple links I found to have these interesting facts!

This is my Mom standing next to one of the giants, as well...They're just massive!

In The News (Sunday Scribblings)

This week's Sunday Scribblings Topic is "In The News". My entry is REALLY late due to not feeling well this past weekend, but I hope it's better late than never. Oh, and sorry no little poem this week...maybe next! Thanks!

I’m really not a big follower of “The News”. All I read in the papers are the Sunday ads and “funnies”. On television, all I pay attention to is the weather, if I happen to pass it while channel surfing. I just find the news to be too depressing. The way I figure, if it is important enough, I’m going to find out about it. I have family and friends who do read and watch the news, and they’ll tell me what’s going on.

To me, we only get one side of “The news”…the side that the media wants us to hear. What good is that to anyone? I just really am not a political person (shame on me, I know), so I don’t want to hear about how “bad” President Bush is, or how horrible the economy is headed or even how global warming is looming.

Maybe that makes me close minded? I don’t know. I hope that it keeps me a bit more positive. It kinda ties into my feelings on natural disasters. I live in California which at any moment could be hit by a quake so big it could rip the state into pieces and we could all be part of the California Islands off the west coast of the United States (OK, not quite that extreme…but some people would have you believe that). Anyway, I gladly choose to live here with the earthquakes, Why? I’m glad you asked, so I’ll tell you…It’s because I don’t have to live my full days and weeks in fear. Think about it…East Coasters have Hurricanes and Central StatersTornadoes…so the people that live there get whole seasons dedicated to these disasters in which they can live with the fear that a storm is going to destroy their home, as if that weren’t enough, though, they even get to watch the progress of the storm (For days sometimes with hurricanes) knowing that it may come through and demolish the towns and homes they and their friends/family live in. Whereas with earthquakes, after you have lived her long enough, you really don’t think about them and live in fear every day. There are not “Earthquake watches or warnings” They just hit and then you deal with them. That works MUCH better for me. Now, I’m not saying that they are any less forceful or threatening than the hurricanes or tornadoes, I’m just saying their my natural disaster of choice! =-) have

So…my “in the news” only comes in “by the way, did you know…” form, and I like it that way!

Thanks for stopping by! Catchya next scribbling!

Deepest, Darkest

This week's Sunday Scribblings prompt is "Deepest Darkest" . How cool is that? Oh, and how cool is the fact that I am getting mine in early rather than late! Nice!

Deepest, Darkest

What lies beneath the surface;
Neath the reaches of lights touch?
What treasures are we hiding,
So no one else can touch?

What wishes do we bury
Thinking no one else will care?
What secrets do we tuck away?
What heartaches do we bare?

Each persons store is different,
The location, to them, unique.
And is often hidden somewhere
That is DEEP and DARK and BLEAK.

In The Kitchen...

This week's prompt for Sunday Scribblings is "In the Kitchen". There are so many ways that my brain wants to go with this one, but since it is Monday morning and I have a bunch of reports and work to do today, I went with the quick poem I thought of while I was thinking of which path to take. I hope you enjoy!!!

In The Kitchen…
-Kat Mosher

Above the fridge,
Below the sink,
Inside the Microwave
Which is on the blink.

Next to the stove
And in the drawer
Atop the counter
And on the floor,

In every cupboard,
Even the lights above
Every kitchen
Should be filled with love.

Sunday Scribbles - "Inspiration"

Inspiration

This is the prompt from this week's Sunday's Scribblings. I have decided to participate on the sly for a little while. I don't know how faithful I would be at it, as well, as I rarely visit a computer on Sundays, so my entries wouldn't be until later in the week. Anyway, here is my first attempt!

My inspiration for writing short stories, nearly always comes from a dream that I had at some point. It wasn't until after having written such a short story and having it read by someone close to me, that I was challenged to explain the process of my writing.

My stories are most often loosely based on a dream that I had, but the characters/players from that dream take on their own new lives as I begin writing about each of them. Even from the moment I settle on a name for that character, it begins morphing from what I dreamt about to what I imagine for my story.

My dreams are strange beings as well, as I'm certain many or most other people's dreams can be. Many times, though I may be the main player in the dreams, I am not necessarily myself. Most of the time, I do look quite different (shorter, taller, thinner, thicker, different hair color, etc...) from myself, but I am still dreaming from the first person's perspective, as if it were me. Oh, and many or most of the time, my dreams that become stories are not based on anything in my normal reality. The people that I love and know in my reality don't even exist in the realms of my story-dreams. This is not to mean that they don't mean enough to me to dream about, OR that I wish they weren't part of my reality. It just seems to be how my subconscious inspires me to write (or that is what I chose to believe).

Oh, and I do have many dreams that are based more in reality. All the normal players in my life are in my dreams and things are just as they are now, for the most part. (I still have dreams about being in high school...ugh!!!!).

In trying to explain how my writing process works, I have found, as usual, it is difficult for me to explain things about myself. You would think that for a writer at heart, descriptions would come quickly and easily...LOL...I seemed to have missed the activation of that part of my talent!

Basically I have come to the conclusion that I have a more active dream life than a number of people I know, or perhaps, a better memory of my dreams. I wouldn't trade that for the world, though (even the really intense/scary ones).
